About Our Degree Programs
At the undergraduate level, we offer a BS degree in IE. The BSIE program is the second largest in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science
in terms of the number of students. We graduate about 70 seniors per
year, which is also the second largest among all engineering
departments. Nearly a third of these students are women. The BSIE
program is ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology) accredited.
At the graduate level we offer Graduate degrees. We also have a part-time evening professional masters program in engineering management (MEM) and we partner with the Kellogg Graduate School of Management in a full-time two-year masters program in management of manufacturing (MMM).
About Our Graduates
Our
programs equip students with a broad set of analytical and
organizational skills. The flexibility of the programs gives students a
wide spectrum of career path choices.
More than half of our BS graduates
go into management consulting; some work for investment banks (as
financial analysts) and for manufacturing firms (as production and
quality control engineers). Still others work in the areas of
logistics, supply chain management and distribution networks for retail
stores and package delivery companies. Most of our graduates go on to
obtain an MBA for which an IE background is a great asset.
Our PhD graduates
are split about 50:50 between industry and academia. Even though we are
one of the smallest among the top 10 IE departments in terms of the
number of faculty and graduate students, we have placed the most number
of PhD graduates as assistant professors in these departments.
About Our Faculty
Our faculty members are internationally recognized for their research accomplishments. They have won a number of honors and awards
and are appointed to editorships of professional journals. Many have
authored well-known research monographs and textbooks. Yet, they are
genuinely interested in teaching. Several have won university-wide
teaching and advising awards.
