Please compare your credentials against those listed below. We do not provide preliminary evaluations for prospective students. This section serves as a guide so that you can see how you compare to our typical admitted applicant. Please note that not meeting one of these suggestions will not preclude you from being considered for admission.

Prerequisites

To view the entire prerequisites for the MS/PhD program please see the Prerequisite Form.

Average Statistics

Generally students admitted to our our graduate program have:

  • Quantitative GRE score in the 700s
  • Grade point average of at least 3.5 out of a maximum 4.0
  • Minimum TOEFL score (if applicable) of 600 or higher on the paper-based test, 250 or higher on the computer-based test, 100 or higher on the internet based test. Click here for more information on our required tests. This requirement is not flexible and no exceptions will be made.

Other strengths we look for:

  • Excellent grades in Mathematics courses. One way to demonstrate mathematical ability is to take the major field test in Mathematics offered by the Educational Testing Service (formerly the GRE Mathematics subject test). Taking this test is encouraged but not required.
  • High ranking in graduating class is a plus
  • Any experience in which the applicant worked independently, whether in research or industry
  • Strong letters of recommendation showing the individual has demonstrated the personal characteristics that would make them likely to succeed
  • Statement of purpose that clearly expresses current goals, career plans, and supporting why IEMS is the area in which the applicant wishes to specialize
