The undergraduate program in Industrial Engineering and
Management Sciences department at Northwestern is an exciting degree option for
students interested in probability, statistics, and mathematical modeling, as
well as economics and decision analysis.
We offer a wide range of courses aimed at developing both the analytic
skills of our students and their understanding of business. While the IEMS curriculum stresses the key
fundamentals of industrial engineering and management sciences, there is
sufficient flexibility for students to pursue other options throughout
Northwestern, such as the Dual Degree program with Economics, the Kellogg
Certificate Program for Undergraduates, and the Cooperative Engineering
Education Program.
IEMS graduates can
be found throughout the world in many different positions: from Adrian Gonzalez
'07 who is an analyst at Cemex in Monterrey Mexico to Kelly Mullen '03 who is
pursuing her Ph.D. in industrial engineering at Georgia Tech to Nikki Pua '07
who is a corporate banker for HSBC Bank in London to Zhu-song Mei '06 who is an
analyst for Accenture Technology Labs in Chicago, IL. Of course, the most famous graduate is Joe
Girardi, manager of the New York Yankees.
Our undergraduate program is consistently ranked among the
top 5 to 10 departments in the country. We
have award winning faculty and students.
Matthew Dabrowski, IEMS ‘09, was awarded the C.B. Gambrell Undergraduate
Scholarship from the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). Laura Riegel, IEMS ‘08, was awarded the
Sharon D. Banks scholarship from the Women in Transportation Seminar
(WTS). Most recently, Professor Barry
Nelson was named McCormick Teacher of the Year and Professor Sanjay Mehrotra
was named McCormick Advisor of the Year.
