Description of Position
Serve in an entry-level position in the field of quantitative analysis working with seniors in the field to solve a wide range of Decision Analysis/Operations Research (OR)-type problems.

Define, design, and develop system requirements and complex system specifications, input and output processes, and perform quantitative analysis using all the tools of the systems engineering trade.

Who should apply?
We are looking for someone with 0-2+ years of experience working in operations research or decision analysis. Position Key Deliverables:
Aera Energy’s Belridge Asset strategy team determines how to best develop and produce the Belridge Asset’s huge reserve base.

The strategy team has been utilizing the decision analysis process to optimize exploitation, development, and production of the asset. The portfolio analyst/modeler will work as a part of this team to support the evaluation of development alternatives. The analyst/modeler will primarily be responsible for structuring analyses and building & maintaining complex spreadsheet-based decision models. These models incorporate complex sets of interrelated data to evaluate development alternatives and generate value measure outputs (e.g., net present value). The analyst/modeler is also responsible for drawing insights from deterministic and probabilistic results generated by the decision models.

Position Roles and Responsibilities
  • Participate in strategy studies and provide input to ongoing development and operating decisions
  • Deliver high quality decision models by incorporating the alternatives, uncertainties, and relationship between variables
  • Perform economic and risk analysis
  • Assess risk mitigation and value of information

Risk and Decision Research Opportunity - US Army Corps of Engineers

The Environmental Laboratory of the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), US Army Corps of Engineers, has a career opportunity at the MS or Ph.D.-level (Ph.D. preferred) for risk and decision analysis research. The incumbent will conduct basic and applied research to develop risk-based and multicriteria decision methods appropriate for civil, military, and environmental applications. The qualifications include experience or training in operations research, management science, or systems analysis with a complementary background in one or more of the following areas: civil, environmental, or military engineering, Bayesian statistical analysis, engineering economics, water resources management, or environmental science (e.g., toxicological risk assessment). Experience in risk analysis and computational modeling is highly desirable. Future research projects will depend upon the interests and experience of the incumbent, but could include linking spatially oriented numerical models with risk and decision analysis models, decision making under uncertainty, portfolio management, and development of new multicriteria decision analysis methods, among others.

Strong written and oral communication skills and leadership skills are required to work in a highly multidisciplinary environment and communicate the results of research to a wide audience. Demonstrated ability to present and publish results of research is required. This opportunity has excellent prospects for career growth and advancement. The incumbent will initially participate as a member of a research team and, over time, will be expected to grow an independent research program.
